Extension Springs work by resisting the pulling or tensile force to which their ends are attached. Extension springs use various types of ends including machine hooks, crossover loops, side loops, and others. It is important to have a well-designed extension spring to achieve the desired spring rate and avoid fatigue failure.
Extension springs are typically designed with closed coils which then open upon application of tensile force. Extension springs are designed with a variety of hook styles depending on the application, such as cross-center, extended, and side hooks. The most common extension spring material is round wire. We can manufacture extension springs as small as 0.012” wire diameter and as large as 0.148” wire diameter.
